Top MBA colleges in Kerala
If you are planning to do an MBA or PGDM, it is very important that you need to do it from a reputed college. If you are not that good in cracking CAT, please don’t waste your time. CAT is not the only exam that qualifies you for MBA. There is CMAT conducted by AICTE, MAT by AIMA, XAT by XLRI. Good MAT scores of more than 600 on 800 is enough to clear for GDPI.
Here I’m listing out the top MBA/PGDM institutes in Kerala. The ranking is given by taking variables like exposure, value, faculty, students opinion and placements.
Top B Schools in Kerala
1. Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K)
The one and only IIM in Kerala. Admission is through CAT follwed by Group Discussion and interview. The faculty is led by Dr Debashish Chakravorthy is one of the best in the country. The campus is really awesome spread over 100 Acres and the Architecture is very attractive. It’s like a resort with greenery everywhere. recently IIM-K have opened a Kochi branch in Infopark, At present they offer only executive PGDM (for those with at least 2 years work experience) there. I was surprised to see the name of TCS Vice president’s name in the rolls. If you have excellent CAT Score, you will get a call letter from IIMK for GD & PI. Fee is around 10 Lakh for the course. But if you get admission there then banks will be happy to give you loans. Average salary offered by companies is around 13 lakh per annum. Click here for more information. 2. NIT Calicut – School of Management Studies (SOMS NITC)
The second best institute in Kerala. Admission is through CAT or CMAT followed by Group Discussion and interview. The campus is not that good. They have recently got some funding and new campus is coming up. Average salary offered is 5 lakh per annum. On campus placements can be said NIL because of the less strength and lack of infrastructure, companies are not interested for it. The fee is around 1.5 lakh. The selection process to SOMS NITC is a bit tough. CAT scores are given more preference compared to CMAT. Admission is restricted to engineers. You also need to have some achievements in extracurricular activities to get through the Interview. Click here to get more information regarding the admission.
3. Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies (RCBS) Kochi
RCBS is ranked 13th in India for Placement performance, “Business Today”, 2013 and ranked 10th among India’s top private B-School, “SUN North East”, 2013. The infrastructure of the college is one of the best. RCBS offers four courses MBA, PGDM, MHRM and Twinning MBA (1 year in Kochi and the second year abroad) . The PGDM is approved by AICTE and is recognized as equivalent to MBA by AIU. The MBA is under MG University. They got autonomous status in 2014 for their MBA programme whereas PGDM is their flagship course. As they got the status MBA will be better when compared to PGDM in Rajagiri. RCBS have a track record of 100 percent placements in the year 2012 with an average salary of 5 lakh per annum. Students have a great support from the management in Rajagiri. You need a score above 500 for MAT, 50 percentile for CAT and above 100 for CMAT for GDPI call. Recently they have got autonomous status from UGC for their MBA programme. Fees for MBA is 5 Lakhs and PGDM is 6 lakhs excluding hostel. I had attended GDPI in Rajagiri Click here to read about it . Click here for more information
4. XIME Kochi
XIME Kochi is the newest in list. Got into the fourth position. I was overwhelmed when I received the best hospitality by the students when I went for an event at XIME in 2018. Professionalism is undefinable which brings them a step ahead of Rajagiri for that. This motivated me to study more about the college and add them in the list.
XIME already have a good brand image because of its Bangalore Campus. The campus is very large equipped with good facilities and infra. You cannot find XIME Kochi anywhere in the rankings as its a new institute. The placements are good. Almost 80 percent of the students are placed and the process is centralized with XIME Bangalore (Shall update on placements after taking to few students). Another advantage of XIME is the diversity of students there. Most of the students are from outside the state. The average salary of 6 LPA. Companies like Wipro, TCS, Infosys visits the campus. The fee for the complete course is around 12 lakhs. Click here to know more about the campus
5. School of Management Studies (SMS CUSAT)
SMS CUSAT is the first B School in South India. It’s Kerala’s first B School with a strong alumni base. The full course fee is less than Rs 120000. As it is a government college the fee is very less compared to other private colleges and most of the faculty is highly qualified. Average placement salary is 5 lakh per annum. There may be strikes once in a while. Many companies like Oracle, Deloitte, Airtel , Mahindra, SIB, TCS, EY, Xerox, KPMG, Amazon etc come for campus recruitment. Admission is through CMAT/KMAT/CAT score followed by PI and GD. Unlike the previous years they have removed the cut off from 2014 and will be calling everyone who had applied for GDPI process. From 2016 admissions there will be 120 seats for MBA. (3 classes of 40 each) and also MBA (Part time) – 30 seats. The highest CTC in the recent time is Rs 14 lakh per annum offered by Amazon
They don’t consider any Distance courses as degrees except IGNOU
6. School of Management and Communication (SCMS Cochin)
SCMS is one of the best B schools of India, ranked among the top 50 B Schools in India. It has excellent infrastructure and top-notch faculty. PGDM provided by SCMS is having a lot more value compared to their MBA. Even for campus placements, most companies prefer their PGDM students. Some of my friends study there and when I ask them how is the college, They say it’s ‘OK’. The coaching is very intensive and many of the students find it difficult to cope up. Admission is through MAT/CMAT/XAT/CAT followed by GD and PI. Both MBA and PGDM are residential courses. Fees for PGDM is 9.6 lakh and MBA is 6 lakh. Click here for more information.
